President Bush has already proven to the world that you can still be a dumbass and gain political support. Those who think that McCain is Bush part two may just have their proof in this video.

“I graduated fifth from the bottom of my class,” he admits.

While president Bush admitted he was a ‘C’ student, McCain’s confession doesn’t translate nearly as well. By today’s grading scale, he would have been a ‘D’ student. Not that good grades in school reflect how successful you are as a president.

I doubt this video would hurt his feelings, seeing that he also happens to be computer illiterate.

Sure, president Lincoln never graduated from public school, yet there’s no doubt that he was one of the greatest U.S. presidents. I’m a firm believer that it takes both book smarts and street smarts to be a good leader.

Still, the way McCain stumbles over the subject makes me wonder if he has either. I doubt this video would hurt his feelings, seeing that he also happens to be computer illiterate.

Mark Sanford Draws A Blank On McCain/Bush Economics – Politics on The Huffington Post

The most painful clip from the Sunday morning shows: top McCain VP prospect Mark Sanford “drawing a blank” (in his own words) on live TV when asked to name a major economic policy that President Bush and John McCain disagree on.

Does America really want a(nother) president who is absolutely ignorant when it comes to economic policies? He himself acknowledges that. McCain also admits that he is computer illiterate! Why exactly are people voting for him again?

BTW, Bush is the first president to hold an MBA (from Harvard Business School, no less). There’s a reason why they don’t bring that up…

McCain Divorce Account Contradicts Court Documents – Politics on The Huffington Post

McCain, who is about to become the GOP nominee, has made several statements about how he divorced Carol and married Hensley that conflict with the public record.

In his 2002 memoir, “Worth the Fighting For,” McCain wrote that he had separated from Carol before he began dating Hensley.

“I spent as much time with Cindy in Washington and Arizona as our jobs would allow,” McCain wrote. “I was separated from Carol, but our divorce would not become final until February of 1980.”

An examination of court documents tells a different story. McCain did not sue his wife for divorce until Feb. 19, 1980, and he wrote in his court petition that he and his wife had “cohabited” until Jan. 7 of that year — or for the first nine months of his relationship with Hensley.

Although McCain suggested in his autobiography that months passed between his divorce and remarriage, the divorce was granted April 2, 1980, and he wed Hensley in a private ceremony five weeks later. McCain obtained an Arizona marriage license on March 6, 1980, while still legally married to his first wife.

McCain is so sleazy.

Senate Approves Bill to Broaden Wiretap Powers – NYTimes.com

WASHINGTON — The Senate gave final approval on Wednesday to a major expansion of the government’s surveillance powers, handing President Bush one more victory in a series of hard-fought clashes with Democrats over national security issues.

The measure, approved by a vote of 69 to 28, is the biggest revamping of federal surveillance law in 30 years. It includes a divisive element that Mr. Bush had deemed essential: legal immunity for the phone companies that cooperated in the National Security Agency wiretapping program he approved after the Sept. 11 attacks.

The issue put Senator Barack Obama, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, in a particularly precarious spot. He had long opposed giving legal immunity to the phone companies that took part in the N.S.A.’s wiretapping program, even threatening a filibuster during his run for the nomination. But on Wednesday, he ended up voting for what he called “an improved but imperfect bill” after backing a failed attempt earlier in the day to strip the immunity provision from the bill through an amendment.

Mr. Obama’s decision last month to reverse course angered some ardent supporters, who organized an Internet drive to influence his vote. And his position came to symbolize the continuing difficulties that Democrats have faced in striking a position on national security issues even against a weakened president. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Democrat of New York, who had battled Mr. Obama for the nomination, voted against the bill.

Obama, what gives?! So much for the 4th amendment…

Canadians prefer Obama to their own PM: poll

OTTAWA — Canadians hold US presidential hopeful Barack Obama in higher esteem than any of their own politicians, including their prime minister, a public opinion poll suggests.

Twenty-six percent of respondents to the survey for the Toronto Globe and Mail newspaper and CTV television identified Obama as the politician they “admire most”.

In second place was conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper at 21 percent, followed by Obama’s former rival for Democratic nomination, Hillary Clinton, who easily bested all Canadian opposition leaders with 16 percent.

“It’s one of those relatively rare moments when we look south of the border at their politics with something approaching envy,” said pollster Peter Donolo of Strategic Counsel, which conducted the poll.

VH1.com : Bruce Springsteen : Barack Obama Reveals His iPod Playlist: Jay-Z, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen … And Sheryl Crow? – Rhapsody Music Downloads

We’ve already learned that President Bush’s “iPod One” is loaded with songs from Van Morrison, George Jones, Joni Mitchell and the Knack. And we’re not sure what is on Republican presidential nominee Senator John McCain’s MP3 player (if he has one), but a revealing peek at Democratic candidate Senator Barack Obama’s iPod reveals a playlist that ranges from jazz to hip-hop, pop and roots rock.

For a candidate who has already shown that he knows how to brush the dirt off his shoulder, it’s no surprise that Obama’s playlist includes some Jay-Z tracks, but according to an interview in the new issue of Rolling Stone that hits stands on Friday, Obama is also a big fan of Bob Dylan, Sheryl Crow and the Rolling Stones.

“I am troubled sometimes by the misogyny and materialism of a lot of rap lyrics,” he said, praising Jay-Z, Ludacris and hip-hop impresario Russell Simmons for being “great talents and great businessmen.” “But I think the genius of the art form has shifted the culture and helped to desegregate music. … It would be nice if I could have my daughters listen to their music without me worrying that they were getting bad images of themselves.”

Jay-Z is one of my favourite hip hop artists. +1 Obama!

Though to be honest, I really wouldn’t be surprised if “his playlist” actually comprised of songs carefully selected by his campaign manager to appeal to various demographics. Politics is dirty.

San Francisco to vote on naming sewer after George Bush – Americas, World – The Independent

Some presidents get carved into Mt Rushmore; others have airports, motorways, and even entire cities named in their honour. But when George Bush leaves office, his most visible memorial may be a mouldering patch of human effluent.

In November, alongside casting their ballot for the next president, the people of San Francisco will also vote on a measure to rename one of the city’s largest sewage works the George W Bush Sewage Plant, to provide a “fitting monument” to the outgoing commander-in-chief’s achievements.

Activists from the Presidential Memorial Commission of San Francisco, a mischievously-named group behind the move, will ask supporters to participate in a “synchronised flush”.

It may sound like a student prank, but the proposal is almost certain to be passed. Democrats usually secure between 70 and 80 per cent of the vote in San Francisco – and in 2006 passed a proposition to impeach Mr Bush and his Vice-President Dick Cheney by a majority of almost two to one.

Stick a Pin in It

While a number of speakers — such as Railroad Commission chairman Michael Williams and Mike Huckabee — have praised the advance of Barack Obama and what it means towards a colorblind society, at least one vendor hasn’t gotten the message.

At the Republican state convention, a booth hosted by Republicanmarket was selling a pin Saturday that says: If Obama is President will we still call it the White House.

Disgusting.

Get Osama Bin Laden before I leave office, orders George W Bush – Times Online

President George W Bush has enlisted British special forces in a final attempt to capture Osama Bin Laden before he leaves the White House.

Defence and intelligence sources in Washington and London confirmed that a renewed hunt was on for the leader of the September 11 attacks. “If he [Bush] can say he has killed Saddam Hussein and captured Bin Laden, he can claim to have left the world a safer place,” said a US intelligence source.

Tim Russert, 58, a TV Fixture as NBC’s Face of Politics, Dies – Obituary (Obit) – NYTimes.com

Tim Russert, a fixture in American homes on Sunday mornings and election nights since becoming moderator of “Meet the Press” nearly 17 years ago, died Friday after collapsing at the Washington bureau of NBC News. He was 58 and lived in Northwest Washington.

His death was announced by Tom Brokaw, former anchor of “NBC Nightly News,” who broke into the network’s programming just after 3:30 p.m.

An NBC spokeswoman, Allison Gollust, said in an e-mail message Friday night that Mr. Russert had died of a “sudden heart attack.” His internist, Dr. Michael A. Newman, said on MSNBC that an autopsy had found that Mr. Russert had an enlarged heart and significant coronary artery disease.

A devastating loss – especially during a political year.

EU in turmoil as Ireland votes No to Lisbon Treaty – Times Online

The future of the European Union was tonight clouded in uncertainty after Ireland voted No to the Lisbon Treaty.

Jose Manuel Barroso, European Commission President, and a raft of foreign ministers expressed dismay that Ireland – the only member state to hold a referendum on the matter – chose to reject it decisively by 53.4 per cent to 46.6 per cent.

Amid wild cheers from No campaigners, the results were revealed at 5pm with 862,415 votes against and 752,451 in favour, giving a majority of 109,964 against.

That’s pretty close.

The wife John McCain callously left behind | Mail Online

McCain likes to illustrate his moral fibre by referring to his five years as a prisoner-of-war in Vietnam. And to demonstrate his commitment to family values, the 71-year-old former US Navy pilot pays warm tribute to his beautiful blonde wife, Cindy, with whom he has four children.

But there is another Mrs McCain who casts a ghostly shadow over the Senator’s presidential campaign. She is seldom seen and rarely written about, despite being mother to McCain’s three eldest children.

I had no idea McCain was such a jerk. To sum up this article: McCain left his first wife Carol, a swimsuit model, after a disfiguring car accident for a millionaire-heiress whose father had deep political connections. He married Cindy just a month after his divorced was finalized. How low can you go? And why aren’t more news outlets all over this?
