How I Met Your Mother is a bit like Friends, but much better (and more adult-oriented). Both are about a group of friends who live in New York City, and the plot revolves around their various relationships. As the title implies, the show is about the main character, Ted, telling his kids the story of how he met their mother. I don’t want to give too much away, so I’ll just mention my favourite character: Barney Stinson. Barney is Ted’s witty, suit-wearing, iPhone-touting, womanizing friend. He has the craziest (and funniest) ideas and he is not afraid to share his opinions with anyone. He is the comedic genius in this series. Barney is played by Neil Patrick Harries of Doogie Houser fame – who is actually gay in real life but you definitely cannot tell judging by the character he plays. Oh, Barney also has a blog and writes about tips on seducing women.

Anyways, it deserves a watch. My advise would be to watch the episodes sequentially from season one as there are a lot of (funny) references made from past episodes. I thought it was mediocre until I started watching from the beginning. Luckily, my sister had all the episodes on her computer. The season finale just aired tonight and WOW! I can definitely say that this is one of the best TV shows out there.

(The long awaited Doogie Houser reference.)

In their TV tastes, the rich are different

The very rich are quite different from the rest of us in many ways, and one of them is what they watch on television. They like shows that most others don’t.

Programs enjoyed by the very rich include ABC’s “Saturday Night Football” and “What About Brian” as well as NBC’s “Friday Night” and “30 Rock.”

All four rank in the top 15 among affluent viewers measured on median income, but none ranks higher than 80th among the general household population.

Among middling performers with affluent viewers propping up NBC is “The Office,” a comedy that so far this season ranks only No. 28 among all shows in the 18-49 demographic. But it is tied with ABC’s “Housewives” at No. 1 in affluence, with its viewers having a median income of $70,000.

I love The Office! I even bought all the DVDs. It’s a great show with an awesome cast to match.

I wouldn’t exactly classify someone who earns $70,000 the “very rich” – maybe upper middle class.

BBC NEWS | Entertainment | Free satellite TV service begins

A free satellite television and radio service from the BBC and ITV is being launched across the UK.

Freesat is available to 98% of homes, including those that are unable to receive Freeview through a TV aerial.
It will carry 80 digital TV and radio channels, including free high definition programmes, with that number due to rise to 200 by the end of 2008.

Users will make a one-off payment for a dish, set-top box and installation, but will not pay a monthly subscription.

The price of a box will start at £49, rising to £120 for a high-definition (HD) version. The cost of installation, including the satellite dish, will be a further £80.

I don’t watch a lot of TV (I can’t stand commercials anymore), but I love watching Hi-Def content. Everything just looks so good. Free content would be even better! Meanwhile, Shaw and Bell ExpressVu continues to rip us off.
